Mental Health Disorders
Hi everyone, today I am sharing some knowledge about mental health disorder or mental illness. Sadly, there is still a lot of stigma around mental health illness, compared to physical illness. Just like physical pain, mental illness has to be treated seriously in order to have a good and active life. And to do that, we first need to accept its existence. Mental health is a continuum with a wide range of conditions, not a black and white situation. With the right support, you can still have a productive and meaningful life, despite being diagnosed with a mental health disorder.
Mental health disorder is more common than you might think. A 2017 study finds that 1 in 10 people lived with a mental health disorder globally, and a more recent study even says that 1 in 5 adults in the United States live with a mental health disorder. This means if you have 4 friends, one of them could use some mental support from a caring friend, who could take the first step (check out my previous post “6 Action Steps For Helping Someone In Emotional Pain” for steps on what to do). Or that one person could be you! And that’s completely okay. There are people who are willing to help. Please reach out to people you trust or text me for mental health resources or help. It is always the right time to seek help.
In the next posts I will share more details about common mental health disorders. These posts are in no way intended to diagnose, but just to share knowledge and raise awareness of what might be happening around us. Each one of us can make a difference, I am so sure of that.
Stay tuned for my next posts and have a wonderful day!
